South Wales pub company, Knife & Fork Food, have collaborated with Otley Brewing Co. to launch a series of ales exclusive to their Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan locations.
The new ale will be launched at a number of Meet the Brewers events, conducted in collaboration with Otley, to be held at The Discovery in Cyncoed and The Pilot in Penarth on Thursday 21st August (from 7pm), ahead of the bank holiday weekend.
The first in the new series of Otley and Knife & Fork Food ales is to be called Phil’s Beardy Brew, a 4.3% American Pale Ale, in honour of the fact that The Pilot is hosting an American Beer Festival in collaboration with BBQ foodie favourites, Hang Fire Smokehouse, over the course of the August Bank Holiday weekend, as well as being the location for the new Hang Fire Smokehouse pop up throughout September – November.
Phil’s Beardy Brew has been named after the hirsute manager of The Pilot, Phil Newbould, who has been heavily involved in the brewing process of his namesake brew, spending a number of days at Otley HQ in Pontypridd to learn more about the brewing process, and tweak the recipe to perfection.
Thirty six barrels of Phil’s Beardy Brew will be brewed in August, and will be available in all Knife & Fork Food pubs in South Wales until approximately mid October, whereupon thirty six new barrels will be brewed. However, with every new brew the recipe will be refreshed and revamped according to the tastes of different Knife & Fork Food employees, many of whom are fanatical about real ale.
Following Phil’s Beardy Brew, Knife & Fork Food Director Sean Murphy, will be unveiling his special Otley brew, Murphy’s Law, which will be launched across the group in October,
The team at Knife & Fork Food are passionate about sourcing the majority of their ales locally, and have developed a great relationship with Pontypridd based brewers Otley over the years, which has resulted in the creation of a series of new and exclusive Knife & Fork Food Otley ales.
Knife & Fork Food own four pubs including The Conway in Pontcanna, The Discovery in Lakeside, The Pilot in Penarth and The Old Swan Inn in Llantwit Major, all of which are renowned for their eclectic range of cask ales and ciders that champion offerings from the smallest of local micro breweries, to current cult favourites and all time classics.
Speaking about the collaboration between Knife & Fork Food and Otley, Sean Murphy, Knife & Fork Food Director, commented: “As a huge fan of real ale this is an incredibly exciting time, not only for myself personally, but for the company as well! To have the opportunity to work so closely with the guys from Otley on a series of exclusive Knife & Fork Food ales is a dream come true.
“We can’t wait to launch Phil’s Beardy Brew at our Meet the Brewers events on August 21st and look forward to serving up our exclusive Otley ales to our customers in the future.”
Nick Otley, from Otley, said: “We had a blast working with Phil from The Pilot on our brew day and we can’t wait to sample the new beer! It’s an exciting project and we’re 100% behind it.”
